These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

I had a wonderful conversation over coffee with one of my Women in Business members that I didn’t really know well. She is quite a bit younger than I and just recently opened her new business. I was more than happy to have some one-on-one time with her to learn more about her story, her business and how I might help. Our first 20 minutes was much of sharing our business stories with each other – where we have been and where we want to go professionally. Because my networking mantra is “make friends first and the business will follow,” I then asked her a bit about HER. As she began to share, the conversation took an unexpected turn.

It seems she was quite familiar with my “back story,” as well as my book and my journey to healing. I listened intently as this precious girl shared a bit about her own challenges in childhood and personal relationship challenges she was having now. As the retired counselor inside of me reared its “hats that I juggle,” I found myself asking her open-ended questions about her current situation and her “what’s next.” Her strength was absolutely stunning. Her potential actions were courageous. I asked her where all of this “wise beyond your years” wisdom was coming from and our conversation turned to my favorite things: books!

I found myself catapulted back to 12 years ago, when the pain was so raw and I was searching for answers to finding me. I knew then, as I do now and shared with her that tapping into her deepest SHE-self would provide answers.

So whether you are headed to the beach or mountains for a little R&R, or maybe just finding some quiet time on the couch on a rainy day…these are a few of my favorite things. These are the books that helped me realize I was never really alone. These are the books that helped me find ME at my deepest level of self-awareness. Only a few are listed here, but they are a few of my favorites. I hope you explore them:

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
The Mastery  of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz
The Shack by William P. Young (read the book before seeing the movie)
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
Living Juicy by Sark
Maya Angelou: Poems
Your Heart Knows the Answer by Gail Harris
